Meghan Markle gifted stunning necklace when visiting Justice for Girls

Meghan Markle was given a diamond and 18ct gold whale tail necklace from a First Nations artist in during her visit to a charity in Vancouver.

The Duchess of Sussex was visiting the Justice for Girls group, a Canadian-based women's organisation, on Tuesday when she was presented the charm. The 38-year-old immediately put the necklace on before posing for a photo.

The charm was designed by Hollie Bartlett, who is a member of the Haisla Nation, and was chosen by the designer from her collection at the Douglas Reynolds Gallery in Vancouver, which specialises in historic and contemporary northwest coast native art.

The official Justice for Girls website states it aims to "promotes social justice and an end to violence, poverty and racism in the lives of teenage girls who live in poverty".

Working with organisations such as Justice for Girls that 'advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment' has been a passion of Meghan's since before she met Harry, and something she continues to be involved in.

The non-profit organisation had tweeted when the Duchess visited on Thursday, saying, "Yesterday, The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle visited to discuss climate justice for girls and the rights of Indigenous peoples. Was great to talk about the importance of a holistic approach to social justice, and the power of young women's leadership."

The Douglas Reynolds Gallery also posted a photo to their Instagram, with users commenting on Meghan's appearance since arriving in Canada.

"Wow," one user commented. "How relaxed and happy she looks now! The difference is massive. The rules and protocols must have been stifling. Happy for them both"

Harry and Meghan announced earlier in the month that they are planning on stepping back from royal duties. Meghan and their nine-month-son Archie have been in Canada since last week with Harry remaining in the UK for the 'Sandringham Summit' with the Queen, Prince Phillip and Prince William.
