The Duchess of Sussex wants the focus to be solely on King Charles III on the day of his coronation, it's been claimed.

While Meghan has confirmed she won't be in London for the May 6 event, the duchess holds out hope of one day healing the rift with the royal family.

That's according to a friend of the 41-year-old who told Page Six Meghan "wants her children to know their grandfather".

"Meghan doesn't want any more rifts," the friend told the publication.

"She wants her children to know their grandfather, Charles, particularly when they are not going to know their other grandfather [Thomas Markle].

"She does hope they will meet and hopes her decision will be seen as an unselfish one, as it was best to keep the attention on His Majesty."

Last week Buckingham Palace confirmed just the Duke of Sussex would be there to celebrate the big day.

In a statement the palace said it was "pleased" Prince Harry would make the journey to London from California.

The birthday of Harry and Meghan's son Prince Archie, which falls on coronation day, is believed to be a factor in the duchess choosing to remain in the US.

But the unnamed sourced says there is more to it.

"She just really doesn't want a song and dance and everything being lived out in the public eye," they added.

Prince Harry has previously spoken about wanting to have some sort of reconciliation talks with his family before May 6.

The duke, 38, is said to have spent many weeks agonising over whether to attend the King's coronation next month.

He is believed to have held 'peace talks' with the King before making a decision, but Prince William was not involved.

As a non-working royal, Prince Harry won't be taking part in the procession from the Abbey back to Buckingham Palace, nor will he join the rest of the royal family on the balcony for the flypast.

Hopes of Prince William and Prince Harry spending any meaningful time together over the coronation weekend are also unlikely.

The Telegraph recently reported the brothers have not spoken with Prince William still feeling deeply betrayed by the many personal family revelations Harry made in his memoir, Spare, and in various interviews.
