Speculation over what's in Meghan Markle's folders as royals arrive in Sydney

All eyes were on Sydney Airport this morning as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle touched down, kicking off their Australian royal tour.

Naturally, one would expect the Duchess' outfit to be the main talking point of the arrival, yet her chic ensemble was quickly upstaged by something far more mundane: the two folders clutched in her hand.

The purple binders, which nicely coordinated with the colour of her coat's lapels, were stuffed with documents, leading many to speculate on what the former actress could possibly be toting around.

Surely the most obvious answer is briefing notes.

With a busy 16-day schedule ahead of them, you could hardly blame Meghan for wanting to use her long-haul flight to brush up on the details rather than re-watch The Notebook for the eighth time. (Just us...?)

That's the explanation royal commentator Omid Scobie is throwing his weight behind; on Twitter, he pointed out the Duchess' habit of diligently researching each of her royal outings:

Others on Twitter were in agreeance, seeing the folders as simply a sign of Meghan's Type A tendencies.

However, there are some other hypotheses floating around, which shouldn't shock anyone because the internet loves nothing more than a good royal conspiracy theory.

Some eagle-eyed Meghan watchers have posited that we rarely, if ever, see royals toting around their own paperwork; that's why they have minders, after all. So clearly there's something else going on here.

That "something else", they say, could well be a pregnancy, with the folders being used to disguise any physical signs around her stomach.

It's not surprising the "p" word has been thrown into the mix; several of Meghan's recent appearances have sparked pregnancy talk.

The most recent of these was Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday, which the former Suits star attended with Prince Harry.

The Duchess' choice of outfit - a navy Givenchy coat worn open over a matching dress - led plenty of speculation that the loose-fitting outfit was concealing something.

That said, Meghan wore a form-fitting leather skirt in Sussex just a week before, so really, there's a lot of reaching going on here.
