In a video shared to her Instagram account, Meghan explained that she recently met a mother and her teenage daughter whose home had been destroyed in the fires.

"This mum had found a couple things, and as I was talking to her I turned and looked and I saw this young woman, and I said, 'Oh my gosh, how old are you?' She's 15.

"As they rummaged through what was left of their home, the teenager was searching for one very special item in particular – the t-shirt from the Billie Eilish concert she had just been to.

"The top had been left in the washing machine or the dryer before they evacuated amid the fires.

"And of course they now see their home and the washing machine and the dryer are ash... they're not there anymore," Meghan explained.
