Meghan Markle emulates Princess Diana in South Africa

Meghan Markle has emulated Princess Diana by stepping out in a headscarf during a visit to a mosque in South Africa.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Auwal Mosque in Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, and met with faith leaders.

The Duchess was wearing a long khaki dress and headscarf for the engagement.

This is the first time Markle, 38, has worn a traditional headscarf while carrying out royal duties. The Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Diana have done the same previously.

Earlier the royal couple visited Monwasbisi Beach in Cape Town to learn more about NGO Waves for Change which trains and supports local surf mentors and their work for youth mental health. They also learned about the efforts of the Lunchbox Fund which provides 30,000 meals to rural school students.

For this visit, Markle wore black jeans and a white shirt with a denim jacket and flat shoes.

Prince Harry then travelled by boat with the crew from the City of Cape Town Marine Unit to Seal Island to see their work battling the poaching of abalone.

Meghan and Harry ended the day meeting young people and community and civil society leaders at the official residence of the British High Commissioner in Cape Town.

During the 10-day tour, Prince Harry will also continue the work of his mother, the late Princess Diana, by following in her footsteps during a visit to Angola where he will view the legacy she left behind in her efforts to rid the country of landmines.
