Meghan Markle 'most popular royal' among young fans

Meghan Markle may not be popular among royal loyalists at the moment but it seems she has struck a chord with younger royal followers.

The Duchess of Sussex has been named the "most popular royal" in poll run by health charity Stem4.

The UK-based teen mental health charity has asked participants to rate their favourite royal and Meghan, 39, won by a landslide due to her "bravery and resilience" and for continuing her work "even when things go wrong".

Included in the poll were numerous celebrities and public figures including musicians, online creators, sports people and public figures.

Meghan scored 21 per cent of the vote among the 1,032 people polled.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, also proved to be a popular choice but nowhere near Meghan's score, earning 11 per cent of the vote.

The Duchess of Sussex has recently welcomed her second child, daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4, with husband Prince Harry. Their son Archie is now two.

Lilibet was named after Queen Elizabeth whose nickname is Lilibet, and Diana is a nod to Harry's late mother Princess Diana who died in a car crash in 1997.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned as senior working members of the British royal family in January 2020, setting themselves up independently in the US under the new umbrella organisation Archewell.

Meghan is estranged from her own family except for her mother Doria Ragland who resides close to the royals and is reportedly a hands on grandmother.

Her father Thomas Markle Snr recently gave an interview about his daughter and the grandchildren he has never met, speaking to 60 Minutes about the rift from his home in Mexico.

He told Tom Steinfort he is hopeful of a reconciliation with his daughter, saying he'll "never give up hope".

Of the paid paparazzi photo scandal ahead of the royal wedding he subsequently didn't attend, Markle Snr said: "I apologised a hundred times for it. I'm not bitter, I'm confused. I just don't have the answer. I want the answer. If I had done something terribly wrong, that would be fine, but I haven't."
