Meghan Markle makes bid to trademark the word 'Archetypes' after launching new podcast
Meghan Markle has filed to trademark the word 'Archetypes' after announcing it would be the title of her new series of podcasts for Spotify.
The Duchess of Sussex made an application to the US Patent and Trademark Office on March 26, 2022, in a bid to stop other businesses using the word "in the fields of cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women".
It comes after Prince Harry and Meghan also made a bid to copyright the term "Archewell Audio", which is the name of the royal couple's podcasting empire.

Spotify reportedly paid $31 million to produce content on their platform for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with the deal coming under scrutiny after nothing was released in 2021.
The filing covers any use of the word in goods such as downloadable music files; prerecorded CDs, audio discs, and MP3s all featuring podcasts, audio programs, and audio books.
It was filed by Archewell Audio, meaning the trademark would be owned by Harry and Meghan, not Spotify.

Meghan's filing could be challenged from other companies which use the name Archetypes in their branding.
Harry and Meghan promised to roll out a "full scale" launch of podcasts after inking the deal with Spotify, however failed to produce any content other than a 35-minute Christmas special in December 2020.
The former royal released a teaser trailer for her new podcast series last month, with Meghan explaining to listeners it will "dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back".

"I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives," Meghan said.
"And, I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place."
The podcast will launch on the streaming service in the US summer, which means anytime between June and August this year.
