Meghan may be writing a children's book 'inspired by her dogs'

Not content with infiltrating our magazine racks and Instagram feeds, the Duchess of Sussex is now coming for our bookshelves.

Well, to be more specific, our kids' bookshelves.

According to The Sun, Meghan, 38, is contemplating writing a children's book.

Though her real-life 'transformation' from 'commoner' to Hollywood star to royalty is the stuff of fairytales, the Duchess is looking elsewhere for inspiration.

It's believed the tale (or tail?) will likely focus on her beloved dogs, with the proceeds from the book raised likely to be donated to charity.

"She's very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children," a source tells The Sun.

"She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it's very likely they will be incorporated into the story."

Writing a children's book seems a little left-of-centre for a member of the British monarchy, but Meghan would not be the first to pursue this path.

In 1989, Sarah, the Duchess of York penned the Budgie the Little Helicopter series.

The popular books, about a tiny blue helicopter, were later turned into an animated TV show of the same name.

Meghan's father-in-law Prince Charles is also a published children's author.

The Prince of Wales wrote The Old Man of Lochnagar, about a cave-dwelling man who meets a bubble-blowing sea god, in 1980.

Although the children's story would be Meghan's first published book, the former actress has been in the habit of writing for a long time.

Before marrying into the royal family, the Duchess ran a blog called The Tig, where she wrote about food, culture and other lifestyle topics.

More recently, she penned the forward for Together: Our Community Cookbook, the recipe collection she created with the women of London's Hubb Community Kitchen.

"I have a lifelong interest in the story of food—where it comes from, why we embrace it, and how it brings us together," Meghan wrote.

(Funnily enough, she once floated the idea of creating a cookbook as a Tig side-project.)

Of course, the Duchess also wrote an introduction for the September issue of British Vogue, which she guest-edited.

"I was about five months pregnant when this process began, and by the time you hold this issue in your hands, my husband and I will be holding our three-month-old baby boy in ours," her guest editor letter read.

"It's a very special time for me personally, on so many levels ... it has been a privilege to be welcomed and supported by this amazing [Vogue] team."
