There was endless speculation on when baby Sussex would be born, with royal fans wondering if he or she might arrive on the Queen's birthday, 21 April, or that of Princess Charlotte, who turned four on 2 May.

But both dates passed without news, leaving royal fans eagerly waiting until today, 6 May 2019, for the latest addition to the royal family.

The day will likely now be known as baby Sussex's birthday, but May 6 also has some pretty major significance to the royal family already.

It was on that day in 1910 that Queen Elizabeth's grandfather, King George V, ascended to the throne of England after his father, Edward VII, died.

On May 6 in 1960, the first ever televised royal  wedding occurred, with more than 20 million people tuning in as Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth's sister, married Anthony Armstrong-Jones in Westminster Abbey.

On the same day in 1994, Queen Elizabeth II attended the opening of the Channel Tunnel, the underground rail tunnel connecting England and France.

It's also significant for several other more global reasons, such as being the first day that a pope ever entered a mosque when Pope John Paul II visited one while on a trip to Syria in 2001.

And baby Sussex won't be the only important person to have his birthday on May 6, sharing the day with notable personalities like Sigmund Freud, Orson Welles, rapper Meek Mill, and his parents' close friend George Clooney.

We can't help but wonder if this special connection will put Clooney at the top of the list when it comes to Harry and Meghan picking godparents.

Or maybe they'll even name their son George after him – and the long line of 'George's in the royal family, of course.
