Why Kate and Meghan will never be pregnant at the same time

Rumours of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle having more children next year have been circulating for a couple months. Such whispers were only heightened by last week's news that bookmakers had slashed their odds on the Duchesses becoming pregnant – making them 3:1 to give birth in 2020.

However, it has now been revealed that the two of them being pregnant at the same time, while it would make for adorable sister-in-law-goals, is highly unlikely.

Plain and simple, it is against royal protocol.

According to The Express, there are certain rules surrounding when and how news is shared with the public, especially regarding the most senior royals.

As Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, is married to Prince William she is therefore future Queen Consort – meaning she is more senior than the Duchess of Sussex.

This would mean, should they both become pregnant at the same time, the Duchess of Sussex may have to hold off on her announcement until after the Cambridges welcome their new baby.

Something similar to this happened when Queen Elizabeth's sister, Margaret, delayed announcing her engagement to photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones.

It is reported when Princess Margaret told Queen Elizabeth of the news, she was asked to hold off on making a public announcement.

This was apparently due to the fact that Queen Elizabeth was pregnant with Prince Andrew at the time and asked Margaret to hold off her announcement until after the new royal baby was born.

Prince Andrew was born on February 19, 1960 and Princess Margaret announced her engagement to Antony a week later.

If this etiquette is carried through to 2019, it is almost certain that we will hear Meghan's announcement long after she tells the Queen and the Cambridges. But we certainly hope we get a couple more royal babies next year!
