King Frederik of Denmark has been filmed showing off his best dance moves during an event in Copenhagen.

The 57-year-old was seen clapping his hands and moving along to the music, following the lead of those in front of him.

The monarch laughed along, clearly having fun – even if some of his moves were a little awkward and, dare we say, daggy.

His Australian-born wife, Queen Mary, was not there to dance with (or laugh at) her husband, but was seen hours later at a glitzy event at the National Museum, wearing a blue dress by Carla Zampatti and aquamarine earrings which were a gift from Frederik many years ago.

King Frederik had attended the opening of the European Week of Sport on Tuesday, which is being held in Denmark this year.

Soon after his arrival, the King was seen shooting hoops during a game of basketball.

According to those inside the hall, it took the King several attempts before he managed to get two of the balls in the hoop.

He was then persuaded to join the dance warm-up.

Vision of the King was shared by Billed-Bladet's royal correspondent Marianne Singer and the magazine's photographer Hanne Juul.

Frederik received huge praise online, with many social media followers commending the monarch on being such a good sport.

Others called his dancing "wonderful" and "amazing" while another described him as a "super cool King".

"It's just lovely to see our king participating, even though he may not be quite good at everything," another said.

The King is a well-known sports fan and one of his legacy projects is the Royal Run, which takes place across Denmark every year.

The event has become a favourite among the royal family and the Danes since it was created to celebrate then-Crown Prince Frederik's 50th birthday in 2018.

Each year, the King and Queen Mary – and their four children Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine – take part in the route which is held in various towns across the country, with the aim of promoting fitness and good health.
