This year's Trooping the Colour could see some major royal changes

King Charles could make some big changes to this year's Trooping the Colour ceremony this year as he continues cancer treatment.

Several senior royals are expected to miss the annual event, including the Princess of Wales, who is in the middle of her own cancer recovery.

The celebration takes place on June 15 and marks the monarch's birthday.

It has been widely speculated that Charles, 75, will ride in a carriage for the parade portion of the event instead of riding on horseback, to protect his health.

And it may be a small group of working royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the Red Arrows flyover, although Hello reports Charles may include some special guests to help fill the void.

Trooping the Colour takes place each British spring and begins with a parade including soldiers, horses, and musicians.

The parade begins at Buckingham Palace and then makes its way down The Mall to the Horse Guards Parade.

Royal family members typically join the procession on horseback or in carriages.

In 2023 King Charles rode on horseback alongside his son Prince William and siblings Princess Anne and Prince Edward and took the sovereign salute on

The royals later assembled on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the flypast with King Charles and Queen Camilla expected to be front and centre alongside senior working royals.

While Prince William is expected to join his family for the event, it isn't known if he will bring his children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, in his wife's absence.

There have been reports Catherine has been out and about with her children and family amid her cancer treatment.

Charles may choose to invite non-working royals including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Peter Phillips, and Zara and Mike Tindall who joined William for a garden party at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.

There are also reports King Charles has invited Lady Gabriella Kingston to attend this year's event following the death of her husband Thomas Kingston in February at the age of 45.

King Charles and Prince William cancelled public appearances in the lead-up to the general election in the UK on July 4, with the exception of Trooping the Colour.
