King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art overnight to celebrate the school's 120th anniversary.

King Charles, the new RADA royal patron, took a front row seat alongside his wife to watch a performance by third-year acting students in the Gielgud theatre.

But, they perhaps got a little more art imitating life than they'd expected.

The students performed an extract of House of Ife, a play by Beru Tessem described by RADA as "a tense, simmering story about belonging, identity, and community".

"In the wake of the sudden death of their eldest son and brother, Ife, one family is forced to confront the traumas they have long tried to bury," the school says online.

"As the sun beats down on their North London flat, and the authoritarian head of the family arrives from Ethiopia for the funeral, tensions rise, cultures clash and past betrayals are unearthed."

Online, their social media channels echoed a similar sentiment, captioning a video with: "Bravo 👏 Encore 👏 to the @RADA_London on their 120th anniversary!"

During the visit, Charles and Camilla were introduced to actress Cynthia Enviro, a former RADA student, who will star in the upcoming movie musical Wicked. She accompanied them as they toured the London facility.

The royal couple also stopped at the Scenic Art Studio, where they met with technical theatre arts students and heard about the set design and build process.

They then headed to the cafe space where they spoke with students and alumni, before signing the guest book.

The monarch was named the royal patron of RADA earlier this month, taking on the role from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who held the patronage from 1952 until her death in 2022.
