British royal family celebrate Burns Night with King's new portrait
King Charles has shared a new portrait in celebration of Scotland on a very special occasion.
The monarch was seen in a photograph taken by Millie Pilkington last autumn inside the rarely-seen library at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The castle is beloved by the royal family and has seen much of the family's history, including the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

In the photo, the 76-year-old rested his hand on a pile of books as he posed in front of the shelves filled with jewel-toned covered books.
He wore a kilt especially made with King Charles III tartan, named after himself, as well as a beige tweed blazer and matching waistcoat.
He accesorised with a tie and handkerchief in his pocket in matching colours to his kilt, as well as a purple flower pinned to his lapel.
No cause of death was shared for the musician.
The new portrait was shared on the Royal Family's official social media accounts with the caption, "Wishing those celebrating a very happy #BurnsNight tonight. The King in the Library at Balmoral Castle, taken by Millie Pilkington."
Burns Night celebrates the life of renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns, and is usually commemorated with a supper.
Burns lived from January 25, 1759 to July 21, 1796, with his death marked all over the world, including in Canada, where it is known as Robbie Burns Day. The occasion is also known as Robert Burns Day or Rabbie Burns Day.

The first Burns Night supper was held in memoriam at Burns Cottage in Ayrshire by his friends, on the fifth anniversary of his death in 1801 and has been commemorated ever since, with the occasion now recognised as a cultural heritage event.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will also be honouring the bard, having shared a video message as an ode to him.
The video featured picturesque views of mountains and seas with a part of one of the poet's famous works, Sketch New Year's Day. To Mrs Dunlop.

The quote reads:
"The voice of Nature
loudly cries,
And many a message
from the skies,
That something in us
never dies."
They added in the caption, "Celebrating the beauty of Scotland, the power of nature, and the poetry of Robert Burns. Happy Burns Night," signing off with their initials, "W & C".
