The Duchess of Sussex is trying to cause "maximum damage" to King Charles and his family ahead of the coronation.

That's according to one of Meghan's most vocal critics, who points to the leaking of correspondence between her and the monarch about the racism scandal.

The duchess has kept a low profile this year, having made just two public appearances.

The most recent came overnight when Meghan was seen in an introductory video for photographer friend Misan Harriman's TED talk.

But commentator Dan Wootton believes Meghan has bigger plans up her sleeve.

"Even though Meghan doesn't plan to attend, she wants to cause maximum damage to the royal family," the GB News host and columnist told Sky News.

He blames the Sussex camp briefing the media about a letter the then-Prince Charles sent to Meghan following her and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During that interview, Meghan and Harry made allegations of racism within the royal family by claiming a royal had expressed concerns about the colour of their unborn son's skin.

But there was no mention of the incident in Harry's memoir, which was published two years later.

During his promotion for Spare, Harry was asked if he would not consider that "essentially racist". He replied: "I wouldn't, not having lived within that family."

Meghan is understood to have written back to Charles, with both parties agreeing the comment was never made with malice.

Wootton says the leaking of the letter was "inexcusable" and he called Meghan a "gutless woman" for never correcting the record about who the alleged racist royal was.

"There are many issues with this letter but what it overwhelmingly proves is she still wants to bring down the royal family," he said.

"She still wants to bring down the royal family. She will be unsuccessful, though."

Wootton has long been an outspoken critic of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In Harry's memoir, the duke recalled how Wootton, while working for The Sun, had broken the story about the couple's planned move to the US, before they had made the announcement themselves.

Harry wrote: "A sad little man, the newspaper's showbiz editor, was said to be the lead reporter on the story."

Harry questioned why Wootton "of all people" would break the story.

"Because he'd refashioned himself into some sort of quasi-royal correspondent, largely on the strength of his secret relationship with one particularly close friend of Willy's [Prince William's] comms secretary – who fed him trivial (and mostly fake) gossip."
