King Charles to be treated for an enlarged prostate

King Charles will undergo treatment for an enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The news comes just hours after it was announced the Princess of Wales has undergone an abdominal procedure and will spend the next three months recovering.

Details of Catherine's condition are being kept private for now, but Kensington Palace has confirmed it is not cancer-related.

King Charles' condition seems to be less serious than Catherine's. It is understood the King was examined after experiencing symptoms of an enlarged prostate. These can include difficulty urinating, as well as pain during urination.

The King, 75, was reportedly "very keen" for details of his diagnosis to be shared so others can have their prostates checked.

The condition is benign, and is common in men over 50 years of age. Possible treatments include partial removal of the prostate.

Buckingham Palace's statement about the matter read: "In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

"His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King's public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."

The King is currently staying at Birkhall, his private home on the Balmoral estate. It hasn't been confirmed if he will be treated in Scotland or return to London for the procedure.

He is expected to spend one night in hospital and has cancelled a week of public engagements.

King Charles was last seen in public arriving at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, for a Sunday church service on January 14 with Queen Camilla.

The previous Sunday, January 7, King Charles stopped during his church walk to speak with two toddlers who were in a replica toy Land Rover made by their grandfather.

The British royal family have long been affiliated with Land Rovers, including King Charles' father Prince Philip.

A new book about the British royal family is due for release at the end of this month.

Robert Hardman's Charles III: The Inside Story promises to deliver an "insightful and authoritative account of the first year of King Charles's reign."

We have already learned details about King Charles' movements on the night his mother Queen Elizabeth died in September 2023.

The book includes information about King Charles' relationship with his youngest son Prince Harry, and how he convinced Harry not to bring wife Meghan Markle to the Queen's bedside that night.
