King Charles leaves health care workers in stitches during 75th birthday reception

King Charles has hosted a reception to honour nurses and midwives working in the UK, as part of his 75th birthday celebrations this week.

The royal greeted Chief Nursing Officer Ruth May and health care workers from the National Health Service (NHS) at the event which took place at Buckingham Palace.

Also in attendance were staff from the Southmead Hospital in Bristol who spoke of the "honour" and "privilege" of being invited to the event.

Okwukwe (Prisca) Azubuike said of the occasion: "I am more than excited to attend the event to celebrate the contribution of nurses and midwives in the UK.

"When I found out I wondered if it was real. It's such a beautiful event to have been invited to and it was an honour and a privilege to attend."

The Royal Family has released photos of the gathering with the King shown mingling with guests.

At one stage he burst into laughter during a conversation with one group of guests.

Spotted on Piccadilly Circus on the evening of Charles' birthday on November 15 was a digital billboard congratulating His Majesty on the milestone.

The monarch has been attending public events this week on the occasion of his birthday with the aim of honouring community members.

He kicked off celebrations with an afternoon tea party at Highgrove Gardens on November 14 attended by community members who are also celebrating their 75th birthday this year.

Those guests were nominated to attend by their loved ones.

The royal cut a three-tier birthday cake at the event and joked that he'd have to get guests "doggie bags" so they could take it home.
