Kensington Palace's window trick to stop people looking into William and Kates private garden

Have you ever wondered what the royals do when their residences are open to the public for tours?

It's safe to say each palace, including Kensington Palace, is large enough that they most likely stick to their own private areas during such times. Still, it must be difficult to completely protect them from the prying eyes of the public.

One tourist has shown one of the tricks used to protect the privacy of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family when they are in residence at Kensington Palace.

Laura-Ann Barr, who shares videos @allthingsprettty, was on a tour of the main royal residence of Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children when she was shown the front door to their private 1A apartment.

Resisting the urge to knock, she made her way over to a window and discovered the right side of it is frosted so tourists can't see into the family's private garden.

She has shared her discovery on TikTok, writing: "I'm at the Kensington palace tour! Look at the secret windows they have that make sure you can't see into Kate and Wills private garden to the right.

"They have it on all the windows in this room."

The video post was captioned: "They are onto us."

Tours of Kensington Palace and other royal residences including Buckingham Palace have been opened sporadically during the coronavirus pandemic. A tour of Kensington Palace costs approximately £16 (AUD $30).

Apartment 1A comprises of four stories and 20 rooms, which is more than enough for William and Kate and their three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six and Prince Louis, three.

The family also has a country home that was gifted to them by Queen Elizabeth upon their wedding in 2011, Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
