'Don't eat that one': Kate laughs off failed pancake flip during visit to nursing home near Windsor

Flipping pancakes can be tricky at times and when there's a dozen or so photographers and others watching on, nerves can get the best of anyone.

And that's what happened to the Princess of Wales who was put under pressure to produce the perfect pancake on Tuesday.

Carefully trying to ensure the batter had spread evenly on the pan before attempting a flip, Catherine joked of the end result: "Definitely don't eat that one".

The mother-of-three then said her children were looking forward to making some with her when they returned home from school.

Kate's pancake-making skills were put on show during a visit to Oxford House Nursing Home in Slough, Berkshire.

It was part of an effort by Kate to get to know the people and local community after moving to Windsor late last year.

The Princess of Wales' visit coincided with Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, and agreed to help make some for the nursing home's residents under the watchful eye of head chef Anna Wright.

Kate, wearing navy and new blue enamel earrings, admitted she was "really nervous" before giving it a go.

"See, this is where I go wrong, I obviously try and turn them too quickly," she said.

Using a spatula to try and flip the pancake she said: "Come on, come on...I hope I can watch everyone else doing this afterwards".

Kate then jokingly told those watching not to tell anyone this was her pancake.

"Definitely don't eat that one," she told Wright.

"All the ones you made earlier are much nicer than this one. I'm sorry, I haven't done you justice."

She eventually had success and was rewarded with a large cheer from the residents.

The Princess of Wales met staff and those living at the home, including Nora Muchmore who turned 109 last month and received a card from King Charles and the Queen Consort.

The home opened in 1980 and delivers high-quality, patient-focused care to its 34 residents.

Kate revealed she is a fan of a rather old-fashioned food after she was told Muchmore loved to eat kidneys.

"Kidneys? I love kidneys too," the Princess of Wales said.

"The thing is nowadays that no one cooks it any more but I love it.

"You need to go to the butcher as they don't have it in supermarkets."

Kate also gave an insight into the royal family's Christmas celebrations at Sandringham last year when enquiring about a resident's puzzle.

"We had a big one at Christmas time," she said.

"We couldn't finish it. It was so frustrating but we had to put it away. I am going to stop helping you now as there is nothing more annoying than a stranger coming along and finishing your jigsaw puzzle."
