Kate Middleton reveals she was covered in paint after taking Prince Louis's birthday photos

The Duchess of Cambridge made a rare appearance on morning television in the UK to launch her new community photography project, Hold Still.

During her appearance, Kate Middleton spoke about her brilliant photos of Prince Louis recently — in particular the 'Instagram vs Reality' of the two-year-old finger painting.

"I should have taken a photograph of what I looked like after as well," Kate laughed on This Morning.

"Luckily, that wasn't documented, but I pretty much, I looked like Louis at the end of it."

The Duchess, a self-confessed "amateur" photographer was praised by professionals for how she captured the cheeky toddler during the fun activity.

Kate was also behind the camera for pictures of Princess Charlotte handing out food parcels, which were released on the weekend to celebrate the young royal's fifth birthday.

Speaking to co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about those images, the Duchess said: "That photograph, particularly of Charlotte, was part of a collection to try and tell a story and that's really what we hope people will take inspiration from.

"This project is really just to try and tell their part of a story from a personal level to try and help showcase and share what they're going though."

Giving her photography tips to viewers who were looking to enter a photo into the project, the 38-year-old said it's about capturing the moments.

"One of the fantastic things about photography is you're really capturing that moment.

"So it's not stage setting it, it's not setting it up perfectly, it's not clearing your house away so you've got the perfect studio set up but it's really capturing those moments that feel real to you and that capture a moment or an expression or a feeling I suppose and that's the power of photography it can capture a moment and tell a story."

Hold Still is aiming to capture the mood of the nation amid the coronavirus outbreak and telling people's personal stories in lockdown.

The "ambitious" project is in conjunction with The National Portrait Gallery, which The Duchess of Cambridge is the Patron of.
