Prince Louis' royal first at Christmas carols event with his family

Prince Louis looked all grown up at his mother's Christmas carols service at Westminster Abbey.

The youngest of the Wales children joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte on December 6 for the annual festive event.

Royal fans have long delighted in Louis' antics at formal events, with the youngster often struggling to sit still at them.

This time, however, he looked all grown up and dapper in his little suit and was well behaved throughout.

And, in what was a royal first missed by many, this was the first time Prince Louis, six, wore a full suit complete with red tie and long pants, an ensemble that matched big brother Prince George.

Traditionally, male members of the British royal family wear full suits for the first time from the age of seven.

It isn't known why the decision was made for Louis to wear long pants a whole year early.

It could have been a choice to protect him from the cold at the nighttime event in London.

Prince George was seven when he was first spotted wearing a full suit, while watching the Euro 2020 final.

Previously, Prince Louis has been dressed formally for events in a suit and tie teamed with shorts – more comfortable for a boy his age – or he has worn in a jacket and tie with no tie, as he did at Christmas carols in 2023 when he was dressed in a sailor-style suit including a buttoned-up coat.

The last time the young royal was seen in an official capacity was at Trooping the Colour in June, when he joined his family for the carriage procession and then on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the traditional RAF fly.

He also appeared in a video released by the Princess of Wales in September in which she announced she'd completed cancer treatment and was moving onto a new phase in her recovery.

In the video Prince Louis is seen throwing and catching a ball as he walked a few steps ahead.

Seeing her youngest's enthusiasm in one moment in the video, Catherine called out to him, "Lou Bug, you lead the way".

It's not the first time we have heard the royal's adorable nickname for her son. She also called him the moniker during his first royal engagement, The Big Help Out in May 2023.

"Well done, good job Lou Bug," Kate had said in encouragement.

Recently, Prince Louis has been learning to play the drums, according to his father Prince William, who joked he has his "fingers in his ears most of the time" as a result.

William, 42, mentioned the lessons during a recent meeting with the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood and Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler at the Tusk Awards.

The prince told the pair, "My youngest is learning the drums that's why I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears.
