Princess of Wales 'getting stronger every day': royal author

The Princess of Wales is "getting stronger every day" according to royal author Jennie Bond, who says the support of husband Prince William has been crucial to her recovery.

In a video released to the public last month, Catherine revealed she is underdoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer, which was discovered following "planned abdominal surgery" in January.

"She says she's getting stronger every day so I'm sure she's doing her best to join in the outdoor life - the picnic, barbecues and walks on the beach," Bond told Bella magazine.

Kate made the announcement following weeks of speculation surrounding her whereabouts and wellbeing, explaining the news "of course came as a huge shock".

She said she and the Prince of Wales were taking time out as a family.

"Most importantly it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be okay," Kate said.

"As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

In video, Catherine said "having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance".

"It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. But I've had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

Bond says she "expects Catherine and William will blank out any talk of her illness with the kids" as the couple navigate this as a family.

Kate's parents and siblings have rallied around her during her health news, with mum Carole and father Michael ensuring Kate is well cared for.

Brother James shared a photo on Instagram of he and Kate as children along with the caption: "Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together.

"As a family, we will climb this one with you too."
