Infanta Sofia of Spain carries out her first solo engagement with a sweet nod to mum

Infanta Sofia of Spain has carried out her first solo engagement, attending the Museum of the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid.

The 17-year-old chose a striking white power suit for the museum visit on Friday, and royal followers were quick to notice it was reminiscent of one worn by her mother Queen Letizia during a very special moment in time.

When she and King Felipe announced their engagement in 2003.

Sofia's suit was from The Limited collection. The over-sized design featured large black buttons and matching trousers. She also chose black pumps to complete the look.

Queen Letizia's suit featured a trim white jacket with matching white buttons.

Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofia's older sister and heir to the throne, also chose a white suit when she formally took the Oath of the Constitution in 2023.

Her white power suit featured gold buttons and she chose to wear her long hair in a low ponytail for that occasion.

Sofia attended the museum for the first edition of the Objetivo Patrimonio Concurso de Fotografía Infanta Sofía awards.

Her visit is particularly impressive as she is younger than most royals who undertake their first solo engagements.

Both Prince William and Prince Harry were 23 when they attended their own solo engagements.

Prince William's first solo engagement was when he joined the British and Irish Lions rugby team on their tour to New Zealand in 2005.

Prince Harry's first solo engagement was in 2008 when he visited the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Infanta Sofia's appearance was in line with the Spanish royal family. In fact, Princess Leonor was just 15 when she carried out her first solo engagement in 2021.

The royal visited the Cervantes Institute as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations on Wednesday, presenting staff with two book gifts.

Both Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia are are styled as Royal Highnesses. In Spain, only the next in line to the throne of the country takes on the title of Princess.

Since birth, Sofia has been known as Infanta Sofia. She stands second in line to Spain's throne. Her full title is Royal Highness Infanta Dona Sofia.

King Felipe took the throne of Spain in 2014 following his father King Juan Carlos' 39-year reign.

He and wife Queen Letizia have carefully educated their daughters on royal life, regularly including them at official events and teaching them what it takes to be a working royal.

Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia were born during their grandfather King Juan Carlos I's reign.

They attended Santa Maria de los Rosales School and in 2023, Sofia started an International Baccalaureate at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales in the UK.

Both grew up in the public eye and are adored by the Spanish public.
