Donald Trump has told Piers Morgan he "overreacted" on Good Morning Britain the day after Prince Harry and Meghan's Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021.

The British TV personality, then host of the morning show, famously stormed off the set while discussing the Duchess of Sussex's comments to Oprah about her mental health on-air with weather presenter Alex Beresford.

"I thought you overreacted, by the way," the former US president told Morgan during an interview on his new show Piers Morgan Uncensored, adding he "made it about" Beresford.

Morgan asked Trump: "What would you have done?"

"I would have left, but I wouldn't have attacked the weatherman. He wasn't worth it," he replied.

"You attacked him. He attacked you and then I would have handled differently, but that's okay."

Morgan's comments about the Harry and Meghan interview that morning last year saw him end his run as Good Morning Britain co-host after six years.

He said he didn't believe Meghan's claims she was denied help for mental health issues during her time working for the royal family.

When he was challenged on this by Beresford, Morgan walked off set, and later announced his departure from the show.

The columnist and broadcaster asked Trump if he would have "apologised" if he were in the same situation following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's interview.

"I've known you for a long time. Would you have apologised in that situation?" he said.

"Well, I thought you were right about the thing. I just didn't like the way you handled it. Is that okay?" Trump replied.

Trump also said during the interview with Morgan that he believes Prince Harry is "whipped" by his wife and says things will "end bad" for the couple.

"Poor Harry is being led around by his nose, and I think he's an embarrassment," he said.

Harry and Meghan resigned as senior working royals in January 2020 and are now operating independently from their new home in the US.

There is speculation the couple will join the royal family for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee events in June, despite any tension that remains following the couple's public comments about their time working for the monarchy.

Trump and Morgan didn't hold back during the interview, which aired in two parts.

Footage of the former president walking out when challenged about his comments following his election loss showed just how fiery the discussion became. Trump later claimed the interview was "deceptively edited".

"Piers Morgan, like the rest of the fake news media, attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview," Trump claimed when a preview clip emerged.

"He wanted to make it look like I walked out on the interview when my time limit of 20 minutes went over by an hour.

"The interview was actually very strong on the 2020 Election Fraud, with me calling him a 'fool' if he truly believed those results."

Morgan disputed Trump's version of events on Twitter.

"Mr President... I wouldn't have called our promo a rigged promo. You did leave pretty angry."
