Count Nikolai of Monpezat can now add another title to his already-impressive list of achievements: that of an actor.

The 26-year-old, who is the nephew of Denmark's King Frederik, has made his debut in a Swedish film due for release early next year.

Nikolai has been modelling since he was 18 and in 2018, he first appeared at London Fashion Week, on the catwalk for Burberry.

In June last year, Nikolai graduated from the Copenhagen Business School after completing part of his degree in Sydney, at the University of Technology.

But the world of film is completely new to the royal, who is sixth-in-line to the Danish throne.

"I've always been drawn to the world of cinema, so it just made sense when it came about," Count Nikolai told Vogue Scandinavia.

He will be seen in the film Doktor Glas (Doctor Glas), described as a modern psychological thriller based on the classic Swedish novel of the same name by Hjalmar Söderberg. The book was hugely controversial when it was first published in 1905.

Nikolai stars as the Danish half-brother of character Patrick Gregorius, played by Swedish actor Christian Fandango.

Agreeing to be in the movie was "a very spontaneous decision", Nikolai said.

"It's all still very new to me, seeing myself in a feature film for the first time."

Nikolai is now a regular fixture at fashion events around the world and in May, he was seated in the front row during the opening night of Australian Fashion Week in Sydney.

He's worked with Georg Jensen, Cartier, Flora Danica Parfums and Dior and has appeared on several magazine covers.

"I'm not shy in in front of an audience," Nikolai said.

However, he is unsure whether a career in film a path he'll continue to pursue.

"Before I decide anything about the future, I need to see the final result and take it all in," he said.

The film will be released in Denmark in April.

In the press release announcing the project, Count Nikolai said: "Getting the opportunity to participate, even in a smaller role, has been incredibly exciting.

"Stepping into acting for the first time and working closely with such strong Nordic talents has given me great respect for the profession and a lot of experience."

"Standing on a set with such a high level of ambition and such a well-thought-out visual expression made it both exciting and motivating to be involved. It has been an absolutely fantastic experience to be allowed to contribute, even in a smaller role, to such a great project."

Count Nikolai, who splits his time between living in Copenhagen and Sydney, is not the only Danish royal to turn their talents towards acting.

His cousin, Princess Josephine, made her acting debut on Danish television in December last year.

The 14-year-old, who is the youngest daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary, had a small role in the Christmas special Tidsrejsen 2 (Time Travel 2) which aired on Danish TV network DR.

She played a character called 'Kate', a friend of the main star.

Princess Josephine's involvement came as a surprise to viewers as the Danish Royal Household, or DR, had not announced her participation prior to the show's premier.

Princess Josephine auditioned for the role along with other acting hopefuls and won the part based on her performance, the palace said at the time.

While it was the first time Princess Josephine had acted in a television show, it was not her first role.

In October 2023, Josephine made her stage debut in the Adventure Theatre's performance of Peter Pan, held at Copenhagen's iconic amusement park Tivoli.
