The Prince and Princess of Wales almost went undetected as they joined fans watching the netball at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were it not for the many cameras capturing their every move.

Prince William and Catherine brought along their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for the penultimate day of the games, attending several events including the netball and cycling.

For Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, their attendance marked their first public appearance in Scotland.

It was also the first time Prince Louis had watched a sports tournament in front of the cameras. Previously, his two siblings have attended the finals at Wimbledon while Louis stayed at home. The event marked just his second ever official public engagement, the first being a volunteering initiative in May 2023 as part of the King’s coronation celebrations.

And in 2022, Princess Charlotte made her first ever public appearance, without her two siblings, at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham alongside her mum and dad.

This time, and much more grown up, Princess Charlotte sat beside the Princess of Wales as the family watched Australia take on Jamaica at the netball match, with Jamaica emerging victorious.

Later, the family moved onto the track cycling where Catherine said she and William had been approached to ride a tandem bike.

“Be careful what you wish for as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome,” the princess is said to have replied.

The Wales’ children were asked at the event: “Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the velodrome later?”

Prince George replied “no” while Prince William added “we embarrass you enough as it is”.

Prince William later told athletes his daughter “loves gymnastics and ballet” while Catherine turned to her youngest son and said: “Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment”.

Prince Louis said: “A bit... But Charlotte says I’m not very good.”

Prince George said he was “rubbish at anything that involves flexibility”.

The 13-year-old said his favourite event was the javelin while Louis said he had recently participated in his school sports day, enjoying the high jump.

Also at the Commonwealth Games with the Wales’ were the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, who had been attending the games regularly as part of Prince Edward’s role as vice patron of Commonwealth Sport.

In an usual departure from their usual support of UK fashion, the family was mostly dressed in American clothing. Catherine chose a bottle-green double-breasted blazer by the Ralph Lauren, who is also the official outfitter of the Wimbledon Championships, where the princess is royal patron. Prince George and Prince Louis also wore linen shirts by the brand while Princess Charlotte wore a polka-dot dress by Guess.

Prince William and Catherine are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when they are in Scotland.

They are expected to join King Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands soon. The king and queen had earlier appeared at the Commonwealth Games’ opening ceremony, emerging from a Tardis at the Hydro arena.

Prince George is also preparing to start high school next month following his 13th birthday in July.
