Camilla applauded as a 'brilliant sport' for her dance floor moves

The Duchess of Cornwall has been described as a "brilliant sport" after she took part in dance with a group of elderly residences in Oxfordshire.

Camilla, 72, was asked to join a traditional Israeli folk dance known as Zemer Atik.

The Duchess was visiting the Cornhill Centre in Banbury, run by the Royal Voluntary Service of which Camilla is president.

It is led by volunteers who offer activities to help older people stay active in their communities.

After first being shown some moves by dance leader Avis Gallager, the Duchess of Cornwall was invited onto the floor to join the rest of the women.

With a smile Camilla clapped her hands as she performed the circle dance, keeping in time with the music and the other participants.

Gallager later described the Duchess as "a brilliant sport" for getting involved.

Camilla has been president of the Royal Voluntary Service since 2012 but has been linked to the classes since 2004, explaining they were a lifeline for older people – particularly those who had lost their partners and friends.

It is vital service for the elderly, keeping them connected to their community and as a fun way of staying active.

One of the oldest dancers present today was Joan Gottowik, 92, who described Camilla's visit as the "highlight of my week".

Afterwards the Duchess visited Second Time Around, a furniture store and tearoom that provides training and volunteering opportunities to promote work, social inclusion and independence for adults with learning disabilities

Camilla tried her hand at sanding one of the pieces of furniture before telling project manager Nathan Wallis "I am definitely going to nip back privately and have a good snoop around".
