Queen Consort Camilla's son disputes claims made by Prince Harry in his book Spare

The Queen Consort's son has publicly defended his mother against claims made by Prince Harry in his book Spare.

It's the first time a member of Camilla's family has addressed the allegations following the publication of the memoir in January.

Tom Parker Bowles rebutted the Duke of Sussex's claim that the Queen Consort orchestrated "a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the crown", insisting there was no "endgame".

He gave a staunch defence of his mother during an interview on The News Agents podcast.

Parker Bowles said: "I think change happens but I don't care what anyone says – this wasn't any sort of endgame.

"She married the person she loved and this is what happened."

In Spare, Prince Harry made a number of staggering clams against his stepmother, alleging that she "sacrificed" him to improve her own public image.

Harry also revealed that he and the Prince of Wales had begged their father not to marry her.

He said that Camilla did not "waste any time" in developing her own long-term strategy, describing it as "a campaign directed towards marriage and, with time, the crown".

And then in a press to promote his book, Harry called Camilla "the villain" and suggested she was "dangerous".

He alleged that bodies had been "left in the street" as she sought to rehabilitate her image.

Parker Bowles was speaking to hosts Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel about the coronation next month and revealed his mother faced a "tough" job at the historic event, but said she had "never complained".

"I think anyone would be anxious on an occasion of this sort of importance in terms of the historical. And yes, I think I'd be terrified if I had to sort of walk out wearing ancient robes.

"She's 75, but you know, it's tough to do it. But she's never complained. You just do it. get on with it."

Parker Bowles was asked whether he thought it weird that his mother is now the Queen.

"Not really, because she's still our mother. I say 'our' but not the royal 'we', speaking for my sister and me. She's our mother."

He also confirmed that he would not be getting a title, adding: "You're not going to find us with great estates and being called the duke of whatever. No. That would be appalling."
