"Your mummy bump has gotten so big that your overall appearance distracts from from your presentation. Something loose and flowing would be best," wrote the viewer, named Kathy.

Kathy added that Anderson has had some of the "best presentations on TV," and deserves the "undistracted attention of the viewers."

"Alright, here's the thing, Kathy," Anderson began, "I appreciate that but remember we're never supposed to comment on what women wear and look like – especially when they're pregnant."

She then shared a screengrab of her weather report from that day, where she wore a cream knit dress that fit her form, with a high neck and a fashionable slash at the neckline.

She added in an interview with TODAY.com that when she chose to wear the dress, she "didn't think anything of" it, adding that she was in fact "feeling great" about how she looked, until she received the email.

The meteorologist shared that to the nature of her job as a weather presenter, her whole body is on display when she presents her segment.

"You want people to be looking at the map, but they look at your body. And unfortunately, that is just part of the game," she shared, "but it doesn't make it any easier."

It was for this reason that she was initially cautious of sharing her pregnancy news with viewers, though once she did it the response was "so supportive.

"For every 99 per cent of happiness, there's always going to be that one person that has something to say," Anderson said, "and, unfortunately, those are the ones that stay (in your mind.)"

Despite the negative feedback, she remains resolute in her viewpoint.

"I'm not changing who I am just because I'm pregnant and growing a child," she said.

"We are in a time when we are healthy. We can have kids, and we can work full time. We are ... professional women, and we can be sexy, we can look good... Just because we are pregnant does not mean we have to put on frumpy clothes anymore."
