World record holder Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis shares a sweet throwback video
We all know making it to the Olympics is no easy feat, with many athletes training for the event from the moment they start walking.
Rarely do we get a glimpse behind that curtain – until now.
Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis has been referred to as the greatest pole vaulter the world has ever seen after taking home gold at Paris 2024, breaking his own world record at 6.25m, and breaking the pole vault world record for the ninth time.

Late Wednesday night, Duplantis took to Instagram to share a clip of him as a child practicing his sport in the backyard.
"Olympic Champion, World record💛💛," he captioned the sweet video.

In the clip, a young Duplantis makes multiple attempts at a small pole vault in his backyard, but each time he falls back and doesn't quite make it.

His parents are heard behind the camera encouraging him to keep going and instructing him on what he's doing wrong.
At one point, Duplantis even throws the pole on the ground and exclaims, "this sport sucks."
Luckily for the world record holder, it doesn't seem like he held on to that sentiment for too long.

Both of Duplantis' parents have had their own careers in athletics and have been an instrumental part of his coaching team, obviously getting their son into the sport at a young age.
His father, Greg Duplantis was a world-renowned pole vaulter back in his day.
He excelled at the sport during his time as a student at Louisiana State University (LSU), going on to become a four-time US Olympic Trials qualifier.
His mum, Helena Duplantis, excelled in many areas of athletics.

Born in Sweden, she first represented her country at international competitions at 18 years old, becoming particularly successful in triple jump.
At 20, she moved to the US to study at LSU, where she not only met her future husband, but became an instrumental part of both the track team and the volleyball team.
