Scotty James' toddler unimpressed by dad's Olympic milestone: 'Life goes on, doesn't it?'

While Australia is welcoming Scotty James and his silver medal from the Men's Snowboard Halfpipe at Milano Cortina 2026, one person is not as impressed.

The athlete's toddler Leo, whom he shares with Canadian singer-songwriter Chloe Stroll, was a harsh critic.

When James, 31, attempted to present his one-year-old with the medal that made him the most decorated Australian Winter Olympian, it didn't go as well as he hoped.

In an Instagram video showing the homecoming, James and Stroll cheered as the Olympian hung the medal around the toddler's neck, but he quickly ripped it off, rejecting the honour.

James was immediately humbled, saying, "He doesn't want it."

Leo made his point even clearer, trampling the medal as he walked away – but not before his dad grabbed him for a cuddle.

As Leo escaped, the snowboarder commented, "Life goes on, doesn't it? He's off to the next job."

Picking up the rejected medal as his toddler preoccupied himself with something else, James added, "He's a busy man; he doesn't have time."

Perhaps Leo's reaction would have been different if his dad had won gold? James admitted that it was within the realm of possibility after the medal presentation.

The snowboarder nabbed the silver medal after attempting and failing his final trick of the event, an audacious backside double cork 1620 Japan.

Had he been able to land it, he would have likely registered a ridiculously high score due to the degree of difficulty of the combinations he chose.

He later admitted to Australian media, including Nine's World Wide of Sports that if he has pulled back from a 1620 to a 1440 and landed it cleanly, he may have won the gold medal.

"Potentially could have done it with a 14 but for myself I had to do the 16," James said.

"I wanted to push it and that's what I was here to do, regardless of the result. I think there's obviously a lot, on myself mostly, but we all knew what I was coming here to do.

"And I wasn't really thinking about that so much, I was thinking about that run, that last run that I tried to do and I wasn't able to land it. It was really going to be for me that run but I'll have to keep pushing it in the future I guess."
