'I dread going to bed now': Neighbour makes strange request in handwritten note after countless sleepless nights

Gabrielle Oehlmann

Apartment living can be great, but it can also come with its downsides.

Overflowing communal bins, parked cars blocking garages or overpowering smells from a neighbour's late-night cooking are all things that will have apartment dwellers cursing their housing decisions from time to time.

Then, of course, there's the close proximity to your loved-up neighbours and paper-thin walls that can make for some awkward evenings... if you catch my drift.

But one apartment-dweller has had an even more awkward exchange after her neighbour wrongly accused her of being one of those late night noise-makers and made a strange request in a handwritten note.

"PLEASE pull your bed 2-3 feet AWAY from the wall," the note read.

"I'm glad y'all have sex every night however I do NOT want to hear it or be a part of it. It shakes my entire floor including my bedframe."

The neighbour continued to write that she "can't remember the last time [she] got more than six hours of sleep" because of the noises keeping her up and that there have been nights she had to sleep in the living room to try to get some shut eye.

"Thank you for understanding," the note concluded before the neighbour signed it off as "your exhausted neighbour".

The neighbour's frustration at the noise is understandable but seems to be wrongly targeted with the letter receiver swearing she and her partner aren't the source of the noise.

She took to the Apartment Living thread on Reddit to share the letter she had recieved and explain her side of the story.

"I wish it was our bed causing earthquakes but no it's just us sleeping," she clarified.

"I've also heard banging in the middle of the night but only twice so I can't pinpoint what (sic) neighbour this is coming from. It's probably an upstairs neighbour."

She concluded her post by asking Reddit users how she should respond and the responses were varied.

Some believed the best course of action would be to address the neighbour and the problem in person.

"Tbh I would go to to them in person if you know it's not you. I think she would be more likely to believe you that way and you can both discuss who it might be," one user wrote.

Some others felt she should simply do nothing.

"I would do nothing. You are just living your life. You know what you are doing in your bedroom. It's presumptive of the neighbour to assume you are having wild sex night after night. I mean really... who has time for that?," one wrote.

"You got an anonymouse note for a problem you aren't reponsible for. It goes in the trash," wrote another.
