Mummy blogger defends ‘unflattering dress’

Everyone knows the Little Black Dress has super powers which can make every woman look – and feel – amazing.
Well, mummy blogger Katey Johnson is no exception.
The Long Island mother-of-two posted a photo of herself in a tight-fitting black dress after a few Proseccos whilst on a girls’ weekend to prove a point.
“This is me in a dress I have no business wearing,” wrote Johnson, co-creator of The Mother Octopus blog and Facebook page.
“It’s not the first time I’ve worn it and it won’t be the last time.
“I know it’s not flattering but I don’t want you to say, ‘OMG, YOU LOOK GREAT!’ I don’t want you to say, ‘GOOD FOR YOU!’”
She then went on to explain why she is wearing a dress she supposedly has “no business wearing”.
“I’m not known to wear form-fitting clothes. At all. But I wanted it, so I bought it.
“And I was proud of myself for it… I felt great in it,” she wrote.
It appears so were her followers, liking the post over over 22,000 times.
Referring to her belly, she said, “It’s where I keep my cheeseburgers and sauvignon blanc” - it was also where she grew two babies.
The 40-year-old year old admitted she has always struggled with her weight but decided to post the image at her heaviest outside of pregnancy.
The work-from-home mum said she preferred to focus on raising her family, maintaining a happy marriage, friendships, and keeping her “sh** together”.
“I’m just taking a break from beating myself up.
“For 40 years I’ve stood in the mirror and compared how I look to how I THINK I should look. And it’s exhausting.
“Now, in an ugly world where I have so many other, more important things to worry about, I’m hitting that red decline button when the self-doubt calls start pouring it,” she wrote on her blog.
She concluded: “…life’s too short to worry about things you have no business wearing.”
