Mother-in-law's shock move after wedding cake dispute with bride
A mother-in-law has shocked wedding guests by pulling out a container of wedding cake at her son's recent nuptials.
The dramatic turn of events has been shared on Reddit's 'Wedding Shaming' thread by a wedding guest.
"At my friend's wedding last fall, everything was going smooth until the cake," they said.

"The groom's mum stood up and snatched the mic from the mc. Originally I thought it was gonna be a toast. Nope.
"She says, 'I just want everyone to know I paid for half this wedding and I didn't approve that cake. It's dry. I tried it earlier.'"
The wedding guest said what followed was "dead silence" and described the bride's face as "murder".

"Then MIL pulls out a Tupperware with cake from under her table. Like... a full, homemade sheet cake. Slaps it on the gift table and says, 'This is carrot. From scratch. With real cream cheese frosting. You're welcome.' And just like walks off."
The wedding guest said "people legit start eating it".
"One groomsman says it's actually better than the real cake. Bride walks out. Groom follows. mil smiles like she won."
The bride reportedly didn't speak to her new mother-in-law for "months".
Now the couple is expecting a child and they have banned "unauthorised desserts" at their upcoming baby shower.
"The Tupperware is still a sore topic," the wedding guest added.

"Yes I think the real villain of this story is the groomsman who validated the MIL," another said.
Another suggested: "Bridesmaids should have collectively picked up the cake and thrown it out as a sign of solidarity for the bride."

"Bride should have walked up, grabbed the Tupperware, and flipped it into the nearest trashcan," one Redditor said, with another saying the groom should have done this.
"I love carrot cakes, but like not when they are used as tupperwared weapon against other's cake," said another.
"That MIL would be banned from my house for at least a year. And ghosted," added another.
According to Easy Weddings' 2025 Australian Wedding Industry Report, couples are spending an average of $650 on their wedding cake, a seven percent increase since 2024.

They continue to be a "must have" item for Australian weddings, with 94 percent of couples choosing to have one.
About 46 percent of couples serve the cake as the main dessert, while 36 percent feature it as part of a dessert buffet.
