A bride who says she "didn't notice" her mother-in-law had arrived to her wedding dressed in a bridal gown has expressed her belated fury on TikTok.

Jasmine Hopper, who shares content @jazzyhop555, has shared a photo of her wedding day showing she and her new groom standing with her new mother-in-law who has chosen a beaded mermaid-style white gown for her son's nuptials.

She used the hashtag #toxismil, leaving no doubt as to her feelings about the situation. She added the caption: "MIL shows up to our wedding wearing a literal wedding gown."

Her TikTok video has been viewed 6.4 million times.

"See now this is when I would have had the photographer edit her dress into a different color in every single photo," one TikToker commented.

"Why do mil's do out of pocket things? Like you aren't in competition with your dil, they are different roles," another wondered.

"When I tell you, my mother would have ripped that dress off my MIL with the speed of flash," one said.

Another added: "This can't be real."

The bride has attempted to explain the situation in a more recent video.

"So the day we went wedding dress shopping, my mother-in-law was there with us. I picked out a mermaid-laced sequin-style gown," Hopper explained. "I wanted to look beautiful on my wedding day. I wanted to wear something I could feel sexy in."

She said she was doing her own hair and makeup and "didn't really register" that her mother-in-law was wearing a near-identical dress.

"No one could distract me. There was one single thing – not even wearing a white dress to my wedding that could distract me," she continued. "So when she was wearing that dress and practically showed up in the same dress I was wearing, I really had no reaction other than, 'Huh. Maybe she shouldn't be wearing that. That's weird.'"

Her sister offered to spill wine on the mother-in-law but the bride declined her offer, saying she "didn't wanna cause any problems."

It wasn't until a day after the wedding that Hopper said she began feeling angrier and angrier as she looked at photos of her special day and footage of the mother and son dance which made her mother-in-law's choice of gown even more awkward and glaring.

"I can't even put into words how embarrassed I am now that my mother-in-law wore the same dress as me on my wedding day. It hurts my soul," she said.. "All I can think about when I think about my wedding is the dumb bitch who had my dress on."

The bride revealed she and her husband fell out after the wedding and didn't speak for months. When her mother-in-law contacted them and they explained their discomfort at her choice of gown, her mother-in-law expressed shock, attempting to explain her choice by saying it was "cream-coloured" and "gold sequined."

The feud continues to this day.

"The disrespect!!!! How was she not embarrassed?! Where did she get the audacity?!" one TikToker commented.
