'Disappointing': Woolworths discontinues in-store check out option
Woolworths shoppers have expressed their disappointment at the supermarket giant's decision to discontine its Scan&Go Mobile grocery shopping option.
From June 8, the Scan&Go Mobile function will no longer be available via the Woolworths app. This means shoppers won't be able to scan their groceries as they go, using their own devices, from this date.
Instead, they will be limited to using Scan&Go trolleys provided in stores.

More Scan&Go trolley locations will be added following the Scan&Go mobile closure.
"In the coming months, the Scan&Go Mobile feature in the Woolworths app will no longer be available in Woolworths stores," a Woolworths spokesperson told nine.com.au.
"While we are committed to trialing new ways to shop, we decided to transition away from this feature due to low customer uptake.
"In place of Scan&Go Mobile, we're introducing Scan&Go Trolleys in some locations.

Shoppers have taken to Reddit to share their dismay.
"Woolworths removing app scan and go in all locations next month," one Woolies shopper shared on Reddit's 'Woolworths' thread.
"Disappointing as I use it every week and find it a massive time saver.
"They aren't replacing with trolleys in all locations too so back to long lines for us."
"I'm disappointed by this too, my store also isn't getting the trolleys," another customer added.
"I love the part of the email where they said, 'Please be assured that our team remains ready to support you at our manned checkouts or self-service checkouts during your next visit.'"
The original poster responded: "'Ready to support us' aka watch us stand in line for 20 mins before doing the bare minimum as we pack our bags ourselves."

Woolworths customers were informed of the change via email and on the supermarket's website.
"We're making some upcoming changes to Scan&Go Mobile," they said.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
They then listed the stores being impacted by this change, and their respective discontinuation dates.
Twenty NSW stores will be impacted by the end of Scan&Go Mobile including Miranda, Caringbah, Rouse Hill, Camden, and Crows Nest. 10 Qld stores are also impacted including Castletown, Springwood, Gordonvale West, and Redland Bay.
The change will apply to seven VIC stores including Watergardens, Mernda, and Highnett.
Multiple locations are being impacted by the change. 9Honey
Five WA stores are also impacted, including Inglewood, Midvale, and Miami Plaza, and three SA locations at Fulham Gardens, West Lakes, and Cumberland Park.
The supermarket will then introduce Scan& Go Trolleys in select locations only, to replace Scan&Go Mobile for some customers at stores in NSW, Qld, WA, and SA.
Scan&Go technology allows shoppers to scan their grocery items as they go, before placing them in their trolleys.
This will now only be available via a Scan&Go trolley provided by supermarkets, and not via the Woolworths app.

Once their shopping is complete, customers take their trolleys to a Scan&Go checkout to pay for their purchases.
Woolworths first introduced Scan&Go in August 2024 following an initial trial in select locations.
It was then introduced to more stores in 2025 ahead of the current partial rollback in 2026.
