We price checked Easter eggs and one retailer was the clear winner

Welcome to nine.com.au's Super Savings Week. We're joining forces with the Today show to bring you all the best tips and advice to help save you money and give your hip pocket a boost.

We've only 14 days to stock up for Easter, or at least the Easter Bunny does, and they'd better get hop hop hopping along if they're to have plenty of chocolate eggs and treats to hide come April 17.

In fact, one discount retailer has already pretty much sold out all their Easter stock. That's Costco.

Having visiting the discount store at the weekend and asking where all the Easter eggs are hiding I was told they'd been and gone.

It seems you have to get in early to get the best seasonal deals at Costco.

I still found some but my choices were very limited. Next I headed to Aldi, the Kmart and finally The Reject Shop to see just how many Easter eggs $30 will get you from each.

Out of the four discount retailers there is a clear winner when it comes to getting the most bag for your buck, ensuring your kid's Easter baskets are nice and full.

At each store we aimed to find the sorts of Easter eggs that suit an Easter egg hunt as opposed to those that will be given as gifts. Here are the results:

Costco

Costco certainly is an experience and is busy on a Sunday morning. It took a good 40 minutes for us to make our way through the entire discount store, past the LED lights, the toilets, the sandwich and sushi platters and pallets of American peanut butter brand Skippy before we realised we were yet to see any Easter Eggs.

So I asked the next Costco worker I came across and he said their Easter stock had been and gone.

All they had left were these packs of Kinder mini eggs for $14.49 per bag, bringing us just under our $30 budget at exactly $28.98.

Kmart

At Kmart we found a wider variety of Easter eggs however many had sold out by the time we arrived, hopefully to be restocked overnight.

We were able to find some generic brand solid eggs and caramel eggs at $8 each, a variety pack that also costs $8 and then they had packs of Paw Patrol and Baby Shark hunting eggs with toys and stickers in them for $10 per pack.

We tried to come up with a combination of Easter eggs as close to our $30 budget as we could and ended up slightly over at $34.

Aldi

At Aldi we found plenty of stock and lots of fun varieties kids will love and not surprisingly, our money here went much further than at Costco and Kmart.

We were able buy to solid chocolate, caramel, Hot Wheels and Barbie bags are $4.99 per bag, then the Easter Figures pack cost $2.99 and the Big Chocolate Easter Pack cost $8.99.

We successfully resisted all the chocolate bunnies that will make for excellent gifts. We'll grab those next week.

Here we came in just ever so slightly over budget at $31.94.

The Reject Shop

It was at The Reject Shop that we were able to get the best bang for our buck. They are selling 100-pack bags of solid eggs for only $6 each, smaller packs for $2 each and then some fun Smarties Egg Hunt Packs for $6.50 each.

Here we came in just under budget at $29.15 making The Reject Shop the clear WINNER.
