He Said, She Said: Why are dads praised for 'babysitting' their own kids?

I think mums out there deserve more praise.

No-one would ever doubt that 2GB Breakfast Host, Ben Fordham is a good dad. I stalk him on Instagram and see how much he loves Freddy, Pearl and Goldie, and it warms even my cold, child-free heart.

His wife Jodie Spears loves those kids just as much, but I doubt she gets the same amount of praise.

Dads take the kids to the park and they get showered with comments like "He's such a good dad" and "Are you on babysitting duties?"

Ben admits it's true. "It's one of the great benefits of being a dad. I mean, all you have to do is push a pram and people look at you and go, 'Oh, look at him'."

Almost half of all two-parent households in Australia have both the mum and dad working full-time.

Men shouldn't receive exaggerated kudos for taking the kids to the skate park, bathing the kids, or doing laundry. These aren't extraordinary feats of parenthood; they're simply part of what it means to be an adult.

Ben admits he loves the extra praise from women.

"There's a cafe up the road from our place and if I'm juggling the kids and I'm on my own, I even see them give each other a nudge and they kind of give this look," he says.

"It's like this glow that comes across their face. Like, 'There's a dad, A Super Dad!'"

For the love of all things holy, please reverse this trend and praise the mums!
