Meghan Markle ditches the Queen’s doctors

If there is one thing we can credit Meghan Markle for, it’s sticking to her true self when it comes to royal traditions.

And it’s claimed the 37-year-old is even sticking to her guns when it comes to the Queen’s doctors.

A source has told the Daily Mail the Duchess of Sussex has politely declined the offer of the Queen’s highly regarded doctors and has instead opted to use her own team of physicians.

“Meghan said she doesn’t want the men in suits,” the source told the Mail on Sunday.

“She was adamant that she wanted her own people.

“It did leave a few of us a little baffled.”

It is believed Meghan has chosen to go with a team led by an unnamed female doctor – leaving the gynaecologists who delivered Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children out of the question.

Royal household gynaecologists, lan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston – a specialist in high-risk births – will not be completely excluded however, due to royal protocol they will be on hand, should anything go wrong.

The Daily Mail also reports that sources close to the Duchess have reiterated the “personal nature” of her decision.

“Above all, this is her birth, her baby, and she must do whatever feels right for her. How could anyone judge her for that?” one insider told the publication.

One major concern with the Duchess’ untraditional request, is that unlike the Queen’s medical staff, Markle’s new team will costs tens of thousands of dollars.

“Working for the Royal Household is seen as an honour and attracts other high-profile fee-paying patients,” revealed a source.

In addition to this break in tradition, it’s believed the Duchess not give birth in the Lido Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington – as The Duchess of Cambridge did. She’s also likely to skip the traditional photo on the stairs of the hospital, straight after the birth of her child.

Meghan has moved into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor with Prince Harry, and is reportedly due to give birth within the next couple of weeks – opting for a hospital closer to their new home.
