Meghan Markle has been breaking the Royal rule book ever since she started dating Prince Harry.

And things haven't changed since the November announcement that she would marry into the British Royal Family.

Among reports the former Suits actress will break with tradition and make a speech on her big day on May 19, there have also been other subtle hints the 36-year-old will bring her own stamp to royal life, including her outfit during her official royal engagement in Cardiff with fiance Prince Harry earlier this month.

The daring outfit choice we nearly missed, was a subtle detail but something no Royal has ever done before - wearing mismatched earrings.

Though it might not seem like much, it shows Meghan's edgy and fashion-forward style isn't going to change even as part of a prim and proper pedigree, steeped in tradition.

And while the future Duchess was wearing a coat by British designer Stella McCartney, the earrings appear to be a nod to her US background, with both by American designers.

According to Hello! magazine, the cuff-style 14K gold 'triple shooting star' earrings are by American jewellery designer, Gabriela Artigas and retail for $430 (US$350)

The second earring is a 14K diamond v-stud design by California-based Zofia Day called 'Day Dash' and costs $710 (US$575).

It's not the first time Meghan has donned the v-stud, with the former actress wearing them during the US Vanity Fair cover photo shoot from October 2017.

In that cover shoot, one of her last as a Suits star, the 36-year-old spoke about her relationship with Prince Harry for the very first time, saying: "I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it's really simple.
