A US man has allegedly attempted to electrocute his pregnant estranged wife by setting a booby trap in his home.

Michael Scott Wilson, 32, was arrested after hatching what a police report described as a plan to injure or kill Ashley Lauren, who was pregnant with their second child.

The 29-year-old had filed for divorce in early December.

Wilson is accused of attaching a car battery charger to the front door handle and deadbolt lock of his Florida home, allegedly intending it to electrocute anyone who inserted a key.

The police report claims he then tried to arrange for Lauren to go to his residence and use that entrance.
