Love Story actress sent 'love note' to Daryl Hannah before she slammed 'appalling' TV series

Love Story star Dree Hemingway tried to contact Daryl Hannah before the Hollywood icon blasted the television series for its portrayal of her.

Hannah ripped into the series, which revolves around the romance of John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette, in a New York Times essay last week, claiming it was "not even a remotely accurate representation" of her.

Hemingway, who plays Hannah in the show, has now revealed she wrote the Kill Bill star a 'love note' after filming wrapped, telling her how much she loved and admired her.

"I really just fell in love with her as a human being," Hemingway told Nylon magazine.

"That was really the note, and just not like 'Hey, I want to meet you or talk to you.'

"Just, like, 'It was really an honour of my lifetime to be able to portray you and research you.'"

Hemingway added that she didn't want to pressure Hannah into speaking to her, and she was OK with not getting a response.

"I also think [she needs] her own time," she mused.

"The show's just come out; I'm sure there's a lot to digest there and stuff like that."

Hemingway stressed the show isn't an entirely accurate portrayal of the real-life people it depicts.

"What I really want to emphasise is that this is a dramatisation," she said.

"We are not exactly portraying her or how something went down. There's a fiction involved in all of this.

"With any person that you loved and you were dating, I'm sure it's a hard thing. So, I think that it's nice to respect that and her."

Hannah dated the late Kennedy heir on and off between 1988 and 1994.

The show briefly portrays their romance before he began his relationship with Calvin Klein PR maven Bessette, who he married in 1996. The pair were killed in a plane crash in 1999.

Hannah criticised the show in an essay in the New York Times, writing: "The character 'Daryl Hannah' portrayed in the series is not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John."

"The actions and behaviours attributed to me are untrue."

The show suggests Hannah hosted a cocaine-fuelled party with her friends using a priceless Kennedy family heirloom for the drug use.

"I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fuelled parties," Hannah said in her essay.

"I have never pressured anyone into marriage. I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone's private memorial.

"I have never planted any story in the press. I never compared Jacqueline Onassis' death to a dog's," she added.

The Blade Runner actress said it's "appalling" she had to "defend" herself "against a television show.

"These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct and they are false," she said.

Hannah has mostly avoided speaking publicly about her romance with Kennedy in the decades since.

"I have long believed that engaging with distortion often amplifies it," she said.

"But a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette features a character using my name and presents her as me.

"The choice to present her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate was no accident.

"But my silence should not be mistaken for agreement with lies."
