Cricket wife Kim Morrison on how her life came crashing down

Tam Wrigley

Sometimes, life comes crashing down.

Kim Morrison was living a dream existence. She was married to the man of her dreams in 1993 - New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison and they had two incredible children.

She was living a celebrity life and loved every second. Their marriage made front cover of New Zealand's Women's Weekly and their status became a global phenomenon in the cricketing world.

The couple had worked hard to build a solid financial foundation for themselves.

Then, they lost it all. They lost their money in a bad business deal, Danny's cricket career had wrapped up and the couple didn't know where to turn.

"Danny went into a state of major depression," she tells Tam Wrigley, host of YouTube series Beyond Beautiful.

"We'd lost all the money he'd saved and what we'd worked so hard to create."

The family went from "living in a bubble" to face a new reality.

Kim's background was in ultra-marathons and she had studied aromatherapy but she found herself questioning everything.

It was the next sequence of events that tipped Kim to breaking point and the life she new, changed path and direction.  Already fragile and broken from losing their entire wealth, and learning to live with life-changing news that prompted the pair to move to Australia in 2006 was Danny's sister's tragic suicide in 2005.

It was with this news that saw Danny slowly and quietly spiral into a world of deep depression and self-loathing over the next few years.

Another blow to Kim's crumbling world was the day she received a phone call from Danny declaring his broken life and inability to cope.

She said, "I spent days on end in the fetal position on the floor of my bathroom just sobbing."

It was in this moment that she released what had been months of stress, feeling lost, alone, broke and questioning where her life is going.

This latest news landed Kim flat on her back unable to comprehend the pains that life had thrown at her.  It was in this moment Kim had to either succumb to her feeling or give up on her life and her home and business dreams or she could rise above, dust herself off and propel herself forward, and propel herself she did.

"I spent days on end in the fetal position on the floor of my bathroom just sobbing."

"I had a moment sitting on a plane flying to Kerikeri of all places in New Zealand, and I just texted Danny and I said, 'Do you think we should go and live in Australia?'

They uprooted their family in 2006 with their children and settled on the Sunshine Coast.

She is now a successful business woman and author.

"We all have bad days, horrible moments and experiences, as well as feelings of guilt, shame, lack of worth and other self-sabotaging thoughts that pull us away from self-love, a place of fear," she says. "We simply fall out of the circle of love. This book will bring you back into the circle of self-love with clarity and ease."

Kim wholeheartedly believes that it's about visualising your dream and going for it – regardless of the feedback you receive or the challenges you face.
