Kate Middleton's green BAFTAs dress might have carried a secret message
Kate Middleton’s fashion choices always get people talking, but the conversation surrounding her green BAFTAs dress has been far more complex than usual.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who is pregnant with her third child, attended the awards ceremony on Sunday in a floor-length Jenny Packham gown in a deep green shade.
It was a lovely dress, but it stood out against the black worn by fellow attendees in a deliberate hat-tip to the Time’s Up campaign against sexual harassment and assault.

However, many are now speculating that Catherine - who uses her profile to champion causes including mental health - made her views known on the night in more subtle ways.
Though her dress was green, it’s been pointed out the 36-year-old still incorporated black into her outfit through her shoes, clutch, and the sash tied around her waist.

W magazine interpreted this as a wink to the suffragettes, who also wore jewellery and accessories set with emeralds as they campaigned for women to have the right to vote.

“Gemstones can carry different meanings across cultures, but the emerald as a symbol is often said to represent hope,” the publication reported at the time.
“[T]he actresses on the carpet wearing emerald certainly represent hope that in the wake of Hollywood's sexual assault epidemic sexual predators will be prosecuted.”

“Once I heard about the idea of women coming together and wearing black to the ceremony, and the message behind it ... I wanted the makeup to have a message as well,” Stone’s makeup artist Rachel Goodwin told People.
Kensington Palace is unlikely to comment on whether Catherine's BAFTAs colour scheme carried a secret feminist message, but it’s certainly an enjoyable thought.
