Julie Bishop tweets happy photo with Mike Pence

Their bosses may be at loggerheads after an angry phone call, but it's smiling faces between Julie Bishop and Mike Pence in Washington today.

The Australian foreign minister posted a photo on Twitter showing both her and the vice president smiling at the camera.

Pence retweeted the photo a few hours later.

Congress and the Administration outside the Oval Office have been eager to affirm their friendship with Australia, after a phone conversation between Donald Trump and Malcolm Turnbull became heated.

The president reportedly hung up on the prime minister after venting about the refugee deal Turnbull had made with Barack Obama late last year.

Trump would later brand the arrangement a "dumb deal" on Twitter.

Bishop is the first Australian minister to visit the White House under Trump's administration.

It was announced that she would discuss "the nations' ties" and strategies to fight Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
