It's something that gets the former world No.4 emotional, telling 9honey in an interview earlier this year she hopes it will become her legacy.

"It makes me even emotional now, because it's where I was," she told 9honey, with a quiver in her usually confident voice.

"To believe that people look at me that way and that they get inspired by me ... it's quite unbelievable, but I will strive to do that for the rest of my life.

"That's what I want my legacy to be."

The former tennis pro has released two biographies and more recently the documentary Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story - all of which detail brutal abuse inflicted on her by her father, years she spent in the grips of mental illness, and her pivotal decision to seek professional help and start her healing journey.

"I want to stand for kindness and compassion and empathy in everything I do," she told 9honey.

"If I can just touch one person's life in some way and change it, then one day when this journey comes to an end, I will die a very happy person."
