TikTok star Jason Clark says he almost died while filming a video for the social media platform.

Clark - who has over 403,000 followers @jasontodolist - says disaster almost struck while filming a dangerous stunt for his outdoor adventure account.

He says his goal was to swim point-to-point under a sheet of ice on a frozen lake, but he struggled to find his exit while trapped under the ice.

"I have never been this close to dying," he said while sharing the video.

"I didn't think my eyeballs would freeze so quick."

In the clip, Clark takes a deep breath before swimming under the ice in the water, appearing to struggle towards the end.

"The surface of the water where the hole was didn't look any different than the bottom of the ice," he said.

"When I flipped around and felt solid ice I thought I was at the hole."

When Clark realised he wasn't at the exit, he says he tried to turn buck, but couldn't see very well due to sediment he had kicked up.

"I then tried to break the ice with my back, you can see in the video," he said. "I don't know what made me turn around one last time. I was so short on breath I couldn't really see anymore. I had accepted that was it and I wasn't going to make it."

His girlfriend Abby McDonald can be heard encouraging him and saying: "You got this," unaware of the danger he's actually in.

Clark said he eventually managed to get his hand through "a lighter spot of ice" which was the opening he was seeking.

"It took 2-3 breaths to regain my vision after resurfacing," he said, adding that the person filming him didn't realise how much trouble he was in.

Clark's terrifying video has since been reposted by Will Smith on Instagram who caption the video "#AwwHellNaw."

Jennifer Garner responded to Smith's post, saying: "I do not like this. 🙈🙈🙈"

Followers of Clark also expressed relief he made it though.

"I'm glad you made it, but holy s— was this asking for trouble," one said. "Include a rope. A waterproof strobe of some sort. Hell, a sledgehammer, an auger, a pre-determined SOS signal and procedure for your spotter, something. I have heart palpitations every time I watch this."

Clark attempted the stunt again, saying this time he made the exit hole "comically big" so he could easily find it.

"Second attempt went a little better," he wrote on Instagram. "You have to try it twice!"
