Jacinda Ardern's partner sums up the struggle of overseas travel with a baby

Bringing your baby to New York to witness your first address at the United Nations can hardly be considered a “typical” parenting experience.

However, as Jacinda Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford learned last week, no parents are immune to the classic logistical challenges of overseas travel with an infant.

The New Zealand Prime Minister, 38, travelled to the US last week ahead of her speeches at the UN General Assembly and the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit.

Because she is still breastfeeding, Ardern brought her three-month-old daughter Neve, and her ‘First Bloke’, along for the ride.

From the outside, it looked like a perfect family trip; photos showed the First Baby sitting quietly in Gayford’s arms, not making a single peep as Ardern took to the podium.

Behind the scenes, however, it seems Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford didn’t have much sympathy for Mum and Dad as they battled their jetlag.

On Twitter, Gayford – who took on the role as primary carer after Neve was born in June – documented the struggles of adjusting to a new timezone with a baby.
