US writer rips into Ivanka Trump: "She'll never come through"
Ivanka Trump is no stranger to scrutiny, but a scathing new article could be the First Daughter’s most brutal dressing-down yet.
Writing for the New York Times, author Lindy West pinpoints various instances of Donald Trump’s eldest daughter promising to champion causes - namely women’s issues - but failing to do so in any meaningful way.
It’s a phenomenon West brands the ‘Ivanka Trump guarantee’.
“Ivanka Trump is never going to come through. Coming through isn’t her function,” she argues.
Watch: Ivanka Trump responds to accusations she's "complicit" in her father's decisions.
“She is more a logo than a person, a scarecrow stuffed with branding, an heiress-turned-model-turned-multimillionaire’s-wife playacting as an authority on the challenges facing working women so that she can sell more pastel sheath dresses.”
This reality, the Shrill author writes, is a stark contrast to the way Trump was portrayed by her father’s party during his Presidential campaign and subsequent election.
The mother of three was thrust upon the nation as “liberal America’s consolation prize”, one with plenty of liberal-friendly “women projects”, West argues.
“She has played her role dutifully, pretending to care about women’s upward mobility just enough to soothe the complacent and provide plausible deniability for her father,” she continues.

As you might imagine, West’s article has earned plenty of admiration. The most “savage” excerpts have been posted and praised all over Twitter, with one user suggesting the piece “belongs in a museum”.
“The Ivanka Trump Guarantee is about as reliable as the guarantee that God himself couldn't sink the Titanic,” wrote @thistallawkgirl.
While the First Daughter doesn’t make a habit of responding to negative press, it’s surely only a matter of time - minutes, probably - before her father decries the article as “FAKE NEWS!” on Twitter.
