Influencer blasted for asking fans to subscribe to adult content in exchange for flood donations

An Australian model and influencer has been put on blast for her controversial method of collecting donations for flood relief.

Former Love Island star Phoebe Thompson, 31, faced backlash for her Instagram post which asked fans to subscribe to her adult website so she could donate money to flood-affected victims.

"Going to make a donation from my website to flood disaster in QLD… so get subscribed," Thompson captioned a now-expired story, where she posed in a bikini.

After receiving private criticism over her post, Thompson posted a tearful video claiming she was "upset" over her followers' response.

"That made me so upset, that made me cry," the Instagram model said in the clip.

"I was literally trying to do the right thing. I've got friends and family that are in Queensland who are suffering from these floods."

Thompson also claimed it "could've been me stuck in one of those situations" as she luckily escaped the flood crisis in Queensland herself.

"You can't bloody win... Damned if you do, damned if you don't... I'm emotionally exhausted from social media," she said of the backlash.

After her original post, Thompson received feedback sent via Instagram DM where some labelled her post 'tone deaf' and suggested she donate her own money.

"So in other words you want to help but u also want to [be] taken note of and make money through it too," one person said.

"Just donate the money if you f---ing have it," another added.
